In the field... quite literally

Was it really two weeks ago today that we went up north? It feels like forever, and we miss it so much!! Thank you Santa Cruz and the general Bay Area for being so perfect to us during our trip:) Here are some wonderful photos courtesy of Jenny's dad's wonderful camera.

Isn't this farm awesome? it's on about two acres right across from Natural Bridges Beach. The Santa Cruz Homeless Garden also has a produce store as well as a flower shop- where they make gorgeous flower arrangements and wreaths for holidays. If you want to learn more or volunteer here's their website: http://www.homelessgardenproject.org/

They had ducks! We saw about ten of them, and two of them were having a bath in a little blue tub.

We helped bring duff to the edges of the garden- to stop erosion from occurring during the heavy rainfall that happened in the afternoon and the next few days.
It was such a great day and the people we met there were so wonderful and really cared about helping people out of tough situations.

After a quick night out in Berkeley and staying at my (Alex's) house we went to a distribution point for City Slicker Farms. City Slicker Farms is an incredible urban farm cooperative in West Oakland and their mission is to provide fresh produce to the residents of West Oakland.

They have a three price levels: free spirit, just getting by, and sugar mama/daddy. The prices range from free to almost normal grocery store prices depending on what price tier you are in.

And finally, a picture of the gorgeous colonial homes that are found all over Oakland, these are right across from City Slicker Farms.
